The Division of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time Cardiac Critical Care Physician to join our renowned team.


Children’s National is home to the only dedicated pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Our cutting-edge, 26-bed CICU provides highly specialized care for children with both congenital and acquired heart conditions and features a telemedicine command center, the first of its kind in the U.S.

The Children’s National Heart and Lung Center provides specialized expertise across the full spectrum of complex congenital and acquired heart disease in children. In addition to general cardiac care, our renowned, multidisciplinary team offers state-of-the-art cardiac imaging and diagnostics, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, and cardiac intensive care.

About the Children’s National Heart and Lung Center:

  • Surgical expertise: Our renowned pediatric cardiac surgeons conduct more than 550 cardiac operations each year, including complex single ventricle palliations, ventricular assist devices, and heart transplants. We are also certified for lung transplants.
  • Lifelong care: Children's National is home to 1 of only 50 Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA)-accredited programs in 25 states. We provide specialized care for adult patients with congenital heart defects, including care in our cardiac critical care unit.
  • Prioritizing neurodevelopment: The approach to cardiac care at Children’s National extends beyond traditional cardiac care to include a specialized focus on the developing brain and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes with our Neuro-Cardiac Critical Care Program and the Prenatal Pediatrics Institute. Clinical care begins with a prenatal diagnosis in the Prenatal Cardiology Program and then continues through any needed surgical procedures.
  • Pioneering research: We are at the forefront of innovative research, driving advancements in pediatric cardiovascular care through the development of novel therapies, cutting-edge technologies, and groundbreaking clinical trials that shape the future of heart care for children.
  • Family-centered care: Our care teams—including child life specialists, social workers, chaplains, and behavioral health experts—partner with families to support both physical and emotional well-being throughout the care journey.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified/eligible in Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, or Pediatric Anesthesiology
  • Completion of advanced training in Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care, either via:
    • Dual fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, or
    • An advanced fellowship in pediatric cardiovascular intensive care

This position includes an academic appointment at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, with rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.
